Bob Beck’s original design used a conventional photoflash tube as a switch to dump the charge from the capacitor through the field coil. Some devices currently on the market still use this technique. In terms of power efficiency, this is a very wasteful approach, a significant amount of power is given off as light and heat rather than magnetic flux. These flash-tubes are very fragile and have a limited service life.

The Papimi machine is similar to Megapulse. These machines are very powerful and thus incite powerful claims of efficacy. Conversely, there are risks involved in making promises to clients about their health treatments. Sadly, the Papimi has been a victim of circumstance.
Understandably, people may be afraid of this machine. In this case, the Seattle Sun Times article gets big hits on the web and the story has legs. Basically, the inventor DDr Pappas got involved with a real huckster that badly promoted the machines in the US. Additionally, he convinced DDr Pappas to import the machines as seed germinators to flount the FDA regulations.
Arguably, the Sun Times’ article is biased and poorly researched. There is ample research to show that PEMF is effective in treating sickness where DDr Pappas may have failed. Conversely, inventors and marketers often just say too much.
The good news is that the Papimi is still very popular in Europe where medical PEMF use is more common. Also, they have recently been redesigned. We love the look of this product and assume there may be technical improvements as well. If you can find one at a good price then it may be worth owning. However, you should assume these high power machines have expensive and hard to find parts. Be prepared to pay 20 – 25% of the purchased price used to get one fixed if it breaks.
