“Can I use PEMF for prostate cancer?” It is a question we get often. We assume it is because prostate cancer is so common.
According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 man in 8 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Sadly, 1 in 41 will die from it.
Specifically, prostate cancer is more likely to develop in older men and in non-Hispanic Black men. Also, about 6 cases in 10 are diagnosed in men who are 65 or older, and it is rare in men under 40. The average age of men at diagnosis is about 66.
Importantly, we were able to quickly find clinical studies that used PEMF for prostate cancer. Additionally, a clinical trial for Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Interestingly, the symptoms are similar:
Prostate Cancer symptoms
- Difficulty starting urination.
- Weak or interrupted flow of urine.
- Frequent urination, especially at night.
- Difficulty emptying the bladder completely.
- Pain or burning during urination.
- Blood in the urine or semen.

BPH symptoms
- Frequent or urgent need to urinate.
- Increased frequency of urination at night (nocturia)
- Difficulty starting urination.
- Weak urine stream or a stream that stops and starts.
- Dribbling at the end of urination.
- Inability to completely empty the bladder.

Fortunately, PEMF has been FDA approved for urinary incontinence which is associated with prostate cancer and it’s treatments. This indicates that the issues are all connected somehow. And really, they are connected in the way our bodies work with all the different cells we are made from.
The Beneficial Side Effects of PEMF
The cancer study above talks about how different organs respond to different PEMF frequencies. However, patients also noted improvements in other reported symptoms besides the cancer. This is a common “side effect” of PEMF treatments: When one thing is treated other things improve. People report less pain, better range of motion, better sleep or just generally feeling better.
Furthermore, the BPH study reports improvements in erectile function; intercourse satisfaction; orgasmic function; overall satisfaction and sexual desire. Obviously, those symptoms are closely associated urinary issues but the extended benefits cannot be overstated.
Fairly, some studies may seem limited in scope. Often, there are only a few people with specific ailments in a study. In this case, there were only 17 people with prostate cancer or about 7% of the total group. Conversely, when most all the cases show positive responses, we can agree that PEMF is good for you. Most importantly, the depth of this frequency specific cancer study opens doors to understanding how PEMF works.
Pointedly, PEMF has shown to be an important medical tool in every case. Despite the fact that treatments in the cancer study were highly specific, there were still multiple cases with further benefits. The researchers noted “These observations suggest that electromagnetic fields, which are amplitude-modulated at tumor-specific frequencies, do not act solely on tumors but may have wide-ranging effects on tumor host interactions, e.g. immune modulation.”
PEMF: Beyond medicine…
The conclusion we can all make is that PEMF works on so many things because it enhances our body’s natural responses to keep us healthy and alive. Seemingly, it reaches beyond mechanisms which can be defined by modern medicine. Truly, PEMF and it’s virtues are still beyond our knowledge. On the other hand, the effects of PEMF are easily within reach for anyone.
