Legg-Calvé-Perthes (LCP), or avascular necrosis, is a non-inflammatory aseptic necrosis of the femoral head and neck. Basically, it means your hip is dying. Tragically, it occurs in both young children and miniature breed dogs between 3 and 13 months of age. Furthermore, LCP is mysterious. We really don’t know what causes it. The hip just dies.

Interestingly, we can learn something from these dismal facts. Often, there is something that sticks out when a disease is studied. Scientists and doctors find a place in the body which can be treated with therapy, drugs or surgery. Likewise, there are surgeries and therapies which effectively target Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease. Conversely, the surgeries are severe and doctors claim the disease cannot be reversed. Fortunately, symptoms such as bone and cartilage degeneration and decreased blood flow indicate there is a real champion in this fight.

How PEMF treats Legg-Calvé-Perthes

Importantly, pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) have been shown to improve blood flow, invigorate cartilage and grow bone. Likewise, doctors and scientists have been applying PEMF to LCP patients with positive results. In fact, both PEMF and PEMF combined with current procedures have been found to work better than only the current procedures.

At ElectroMeds, this is easy for us to understand simply because both LCP and PEMF work in mysterious ways. Things happen at the cellular level within our bodies that no one can fully explain. Certainly, it can be explained beyond most of our understanding because cells are very complicated. However, no one can fully define how cells work. Thus, it makes it super difficult to make proper treatments for diseases we know little about. Again, PEMF can be safely applied to so many issues because it invigorates the cells and the cells do the work. We don’t need “Knowledge.”

It is hard to find clinical studies that back these claims. Often, they are in foreign languages or are behind a paywall. Nevertheless, we have found two that create a strong case for more PEMF usage on LCP. Both studies cover early and late stages of Legg-Calvé-Perthes (LCP), or avascular necrosis. Likewise, both studies indicate PEMF usage in all cases is a good idea. The proven healing properties of PEMF makes it a good choice for early stage and prevention and late stage or as added therapy. Most importantly, the findings we share give hope to the people affected by this strange and exhaustive disease.
